Playing in Las Vegas: the Ultimate Sin City

Hey friends, when I need a bit of adult relaxation and fun, I play at Las Vegas casinos and enjoy the ultimate Sin City experience!

Las Vegas was settled in 1905 and was incorporated in 1911 but it was a sleepy backwater until 1931 when Nevada legalised gambling and Hoover Dam was built, bringing in workers to the region from around the United States. Because of the workers spent their hard-earned cash at the casinos, Las Vegas weathered the “Great Depression” well. After Work War II, though, it experienced explosive growth as huge resorts began to dot the area. During the 20th Century, it was the fastest growing city in the United States growing from a population of 0 to the current population of more than 2.3 Million. That population is dwarfed, however, by more than 42 Million tourists that visit the city annually!

Fremont Street is home to the Slotzilla Zipline!

Las Vegas is brash, garish, artificial and totally fun! Remember, my friends, those impressively decorated casinos and hotels weren’t designed to lose money. Still, you can have a fantastic time if you remember to only gamble what you can afford to lose. The two main entertainment areas are Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard, known as “The Strip”. There are diversions in these areas to match any taste and desire. I love to shop, watch shows, sunbathing by the pool sipping cocktails, enjoying lazy and relaxed meals, hitting the roulette table before taking in a show and then dancing into the wee hours at Las Vegas’ opulent nightclubs.

Here are my top things to do when I’m in Las Vegas:

  • Take in a Show or Two: Las Vegas Shows are varied and fabulous. There are always several big names in town playing concerts. You’ll find something that matches your tastes and mood. David Copperfield is always impressive even if you must suspend belief in physics to fully enjoy his show. I love the athletic precision and surreal sights of Cirque du Soleil and there are many venues and different shows from which to select. In addition, I delight to watch Absinthe at Caesar’s Palace for laughter and awe-inspiring acts.

Here is a pro-tip: most of the shows in town distribute through just a few outlets. The main one is https://showtickets.com. I’d recommend checking there first, particularly for last minute tickets.

  • Enjoy an Evening Helicopter Ride: Seeing the light shows at night from a helicopter is exciting and unforgettable.
  • Take a Tour to the Grand Canyon: the bus trip takes all day but the scenery is spectacular. You can go there quicker with the helicopter tour but I prefer the ground transport to enjoy the fabulous views along the way.
  • Visit the Mojave Desert: Las Vegas is right at the edge of the Mojave Desert and exploring the desert landscape is exciting! I recommend a Red Rock Canyon tour to see nature in all its grandeur.
  • Shop ‘til You Drop: The shopping in Vegas is excellent and a good value. Don’t plan on spending any winnings from the gaming table, but if it happens, treat yourself to something extravagant to remember your trip!

Red Rock Canyon is beautiful in the Mojave Desert!

  • Visit the Neon Museum: for a bit of nostalgia, check out Las Vegas’ Neon Museum. This large outdoor exhibit includes signs from old casinos and traces the history of Las Vegas as it has grown and evolved.
  • Slotzilla Zipline: If you are adventurous, the Slotzilla Zipline down the legendary Fremont Street is an excellent way to obtain your adrenaline rush!

There is so much to see and do in Vegas that you’ll have little time to sleep and no time to be bored!

Reaching Las Vegas is easy. McCarran International Airport is conveniently located near The Strip. In fact, you can see the hotels from the runway. You can be in a taxi and at your hotel in a few minutes. Ride-sharing is widely available in Las Vegas but taxis are everywhere and they are inexpensive and convenient. Buses are also available but Las Vegas, unlike most U.S. western cities, is also walkable!

The Aria Hotel is cool!

There are more high-quality hotels in Las Vegas than anywhere in the world. Hotels are inexpensive because of competition but also because the properties know that you’ll gamble more where you stay. After partying into the wee hours, you’ll be tempted to visit the tables before sleeping. I like the Aria Resort and Casino, the Bellagio and the Venetian. I also enjoy Caesar’s Palace because it is old-school cool and still one of the best hotels in Vegas! There are fun properties to fit any price range and all offer their unique attractions!

Las Vegas offers a plethora of excellent restaurants that cater to any budget, taste and dietary restriction. The hotels all have several signature restaurants and competition is tight so food in Vegas is a good value. Some of my favourites include Mizumi, Guy Savoy, Cipriani’s and The Capital Grille. Good food is available everywhere, service is excellent and there is always something to watch – even if you must wait for a table.

Mizumi Restaurant is an experience as well as a meal!

Las Vegas is also synonymous with excellent bars! I like Chandelier at the Cosmopolitan because it is always packed with good-looking clientele. The Skyfall Lounge at the Delano Resort has incredible views but nothing can match the 107 Skylounge at the Stratosphere Hotel for the best panoramic view of the city!

Finally, if you like to dance, Las Vegas has some of the best nightclubs in the world! Hakkasan Nightclub at the MGM Grand hotel is excellent and also boasts a fantastic restaurant. Jewel at the Aria is excellent for dancing and enjoying the rave lifestyle. Light at Mandalay Bay is also one of my favourites. Wherever you visit, however, you’ll find some of the world’s leading DJs and everyone in a party mood!

Hakkasan Nightclub is great for late night partying!

Enjoy a wonderful time in “Lost Wages” and remember, “What goes in Vegas, stays in Vegas!”

Love,

Isabella
